On the Reach, there is no ground—only pale stone roads suspended above endless light. Every traveler carries a living map shaped to their body, their load, and the routes they can truly use.
Vess has spent eleven years carrying medicine, grain, and messages between distant knots. Then a final growth step reveals a western road on her map—one no other courier can reach and the map cannot finish. The station takes away her long runs, and careful suspicion begins costing her the life she built.
To win back her work, Vess must follow the unfinished line onto abandoned stone. The Dot can float across every gap. But this is Vess's road to prove, and helping her means learning when not to take the easy way.
